TAP is dedicated to providing theatre education opportunities to members of the community of all ages. We firmly believe that by learning theatre skills, one learns life skills such as creativity, confidence, and cooperation in a fun and exciting way.
 
TAP offers both classes and workshops. Are you looking for a weekly class to build you skills over a period of time? Check out our class offerings. If you would like to dip your toes in to give it a try, are interested in building a specific skill set, or if you are on a budget; workshops might be the way to go. Theatre Games
Students: Kindergarten – 2nd grade
Dates: September 9 – October 14
Day: Saturdays

Place: Third Avenue Playhouse
Class Description: An introduction to theatre through creative play, Theatre Games combines the use of imagination and physicality in focused activities to get those wiggles out in a fun, creative and safe learning environment.

Elementary Acting Lab
Students: 3rd through 5th grade

Class Description: This fun class focuses energy  and imagination towards creative play, ensemble building, and stage craft.

Middle School Acting Lab
Students: 6th through 8th grade
Dates: September 9 – October 14
Day: Saturday
Time: 12:00 – 1:30 pm
Place: Third Avenue Playhouse
Class Description: As an introduction to theatre, students will study character development, intention and setting, all within the context of fun games and improvisations, followed by work on a performance piece to show friends and family on the last day of class.

High School Acting Lab
Students: 9th through 12th grade
Dates: September 12 – October 17
Days: Tuesdays
Time: 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm
Place: Third Avenue Playhouse
Class Description: Through improvisations and game playing, movement and voice exercises, monologue and scene work,  the students will experience the atmosphere of ensemble building and the excitement and rewards of a final group sharing – a capstone presentation.

Acting for Stage and Screen
Students: age 18 and up, all levels of experience
Dates: September 25 –  November 6 (no class on Oct. 9)
Days: Mondays
Time: 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Place: Third Avenue Playhouse
Class Description: Improve your acting skills through scene study. We will take a scene from cold reading through  scene partner work and culminate in filming. Small class size will allow for individual guidance and coaching, making this class suitable for all levels of experience. Students will take home a DVD of their work.

Playwriting Lab I
Students: This is a beginning playwriting lab, but is open to all levels of talent and experience. Designed with adults in mind, high school students may enroll by invitation: call 920 743 1760.
Dates: October 2 – November 12
Day and time: Mondays, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm with an additional showcase reading presentation at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 12
Place: Third Avenue Playhouse
Class Description: What goes into writing a play? During this exciting Playwriting Lab you will focus on creating compelling characters and a dramatic structure that supports the story and ideas of your play, experiencing firsthand how setting, dialogue and elements of theatricality also act as key ingredients. In class, hands-on exercises geared towards lively discussions are designed to spark out-of-class writing as you discover your playwriting voice while building your own short one-act play. The final sessions will culminate in a reading of participants’ plays for an invited audience.

Workshop Descriptions and Schedules
 
Beginning Improvisation
Students: age 16 and up
Date: September 18
Day and time: Monday 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm 
Place: Third Avenue Playhouse
Class Description: This class is for anyone who wants to learn how to improvise – for fun, to improve public speaking, or to eventually pursue it professionally! Students will be introduced to the basics of improvisation with a focus on support, teamwork, bravery, silliness, and fun! No prior experience necessary.
Instructor: Erica Elam
Fee: $35 (save when you take two: $60 for both beginning and advanced improv)

Advanced Improvisation
Students: age 16 and up, Completion of Beginning Improv or other theatre/improv training necessary to register.
Date: October 9
Day and time: Monday 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Class Description: This class is for students with prior theatre or improv experience. The emphasis will be placed on emotional bravery and honest scene work.

Improv for a More Joyful Life
Students: age 16 and up 
Date: October 7
Day and time: Saturday 9:00 am – noon 
Place: Third Avenue Playhouse
Class Description: Scientific research tells us that the happiest people have the following in common: they laugh, express gratitude, live in the moment, give to others, are physically active, socialize with people who make them feel good, and spend money on experiences rather than things. They also tend to have short commutes to work. So if you live near Third Avenue Playhouse, come learn how improvisation can instantly increase your serotonin levels, get your heart rate up, and fill you with gratitude, empathy, and joy!
